Tim Wistrom - Artist

Many people don't know his name, but they know his paintings. He's often referred to as "the guy that paints Seattle underwater" or "the artist that paints peaceful post-apocalyptic scenes of west coast cities."  Still other people know him as the artist that creates amazing surrealism, so detailed it looks like a photograph. And many had the opportunity to watch him paint at Art Shows in the malls during the 70's, 80's and 90's - his original paintings were of boats, lighthouses, and Pacific Northwest scenes. His artistic career  has spanned 42 years, and counting. He is the guy; Tim Wistrom - Artist, and yes, he's still doing it.

"Look at my paintings with a sense of humor and creativity, as my goal is to spark your imagination. Consider a world gone by and a world yet to be. Just Imagine! "-Tim Wistrom

Tim works with acrylic paint on canvas, using paint brushes. He uses no computers, no projectors, no airbrushes, not even a plumbline - only the paint and brushes. Every painting is done completely by hand, the old fashioned way. He self-produces only 2 different images each year in print form. And clients flock to collect his creations, which are popular for their detail and concepts; Tims' thought provoking themes. Most of his paintings are one of a kind originals, which always sell fast - you may see a painting at one show but never again.

In recent years Tim has been participating in Art Festivals from Bellingham, WA to Tucson, AZ and all points in between. Travel is a lifelong love, and often Tim will be traveling for months at a time. While on the road, he finds great spots to spend a few days (or weeks), and pulls out his paints to create on canvas a new scene or idea. In between the 20-30 shows each year, he creates about 20 new originals of various sizes.

Born in Germany to parents in the US Air Force, Tim grew up in Germany, on the East Coast, in San Diego, and Seattle.  Although his travels take him all over the world, Washington has been his home for over 25 years.

Giclee (zhee-clay) is a French term, in this case meaning "spray of ink". A giclee is a Fine Art Reproduction on Canvas, from the artist's original painting. Most of us cannot afford to buy an original painting, so giclees are the next best thing. They have the look, feel, and longevity of an original painting for a fraction of the cost. Each is personally signed, numbered, and enhanced by Tim, creating a unique and individual image.

This year we'll hold the Annual Studio Show at Lockhaven Marina, since Tim's actual studio isn't ready yet. Many of you have already been here, it's on the south side of the Locks in Magnolia.

Saturday and Sunday, April 13 & 14, Noon - 5pm. He's been working on a bunch of new works, and I think you'll find some very interesting and different paintings.

Lockhaven Marina, 3030 West Commodore Way, Seattle, WA 98199 (coming along W. Commodore Way it will begin to curve to the right, the marina is down the hill right on that curve. If you pass that curve, you've gone too far).

Ok, so the weather is ... well, pretty much like spring time in Seattle. So what, we can handle it. This weekend is the big 44th Annual University Street Fair, and we'll be there with rain gear on, if necessary. Our space is in a slightly different location this year, but still close to where we were last year. Booth #310 is between 42nd and 43rd Streets - close to 43rd St on the East side of the street. So do a little sun-dance but wear your rain boots just in case. Hope to see you there.

Ok all you creative Wistrom Fans, here's a NEW PAINTING just completed. It will be available at the Edmonds Art Festival this weekend - we're in booth #330, Fri-Sun. Check the CALENDAR page for more show information.

This is an original painting 30" x 40" and will be printed (check Prints on the New Works tab for edition sizes and prices). We have Mt Rainier in the background and a Blue Angle jet streaking across the sky, while 3 hydos and a Washington State Ferry racing along. Realistic surrealism, or is it surrealistic realism?

The prints will be available by the Taste of Tacoma June 28 - 30 (Booth A27). And you can pre-order at the Edmonds Festival, the Fremont Festival June 22 - 23 (booth B58, on N 34th St.), or call/email Nancy Wistrom.

And we're running a little contest - submit a title for this painting via FaceBook, or email (nancy@timwistrom.com), or in person at one of our shows. The winning title (picked by Tim) wins the #1/75 Giclee 16x20" canvas. Wow, really!! So give it some thought and creativity, and come up with the winning title.

Couple of rules: One entry per person please, and the deadline is midnite June 24th with the winner notified on the 25th.

Wow, what a great summer! Thank you all that came to see us.

We have one more event before we head out of state for shows. The FRESH PAINT show is along the Everett Marina waterfront, our booth is on the dock infront of Lombardii's Restaurant.

This is a special event because all the artists will be demonstrating their talents and creating new art right in their booth. Over the two days, Tim will create a new original, not sure what of but you know it will be cool!

"Threading the Needle"

A unique shape, this painting is in the shape of a diamond. The Space Needle, Mount Rainer, orca whales, and a humpback whale. The sea life is playing in and around the legs of the Space Needle, as if they are threading a needle.

"A Killer Season"

The Seattle Seahawks are the XLVIII Super Bowl Champions! This painting shows Century Link Stadium alive with a pod of killer whales celebrating the win, notice the Lombardi trophy on the scoreboard. Yes, it certainly was a killer season.

Great Festivals All Summer

The summer show season is upon us, and so far it has been fabulous! All of the events in which we participate offer tons of art, fun music of all types, and plenty of food and drink. Last weekend at the Fremont Solstice Festival we saw probably 150,000 people in two days. So much fun. Thank you everyone that stopped by.

This coming weekend we will be at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA for the Taste of Tacoma. Since the weather is supposed to be in the 90's it will be an added bonus to be so close to the water, we will certainly have a nice cool breeze over the three days (Friday - Sunday, 6/26-28/15).

The Seattle Public Market Center, known to locals simply as the market, is a place full of tourists, art, flowers, and farm-to-table fresh food. It doesn't get any fresher than the salmon pulled from the river by an eagle. This is another vision of nature reclaiming, a reoccurring theme of Tim's surrealistic paintings.
